Menswear in Singapore
I realized when guys grow up, their wardrobe switched from casual wear to formal wear. Most of my peers can’t see the value in investing in office wear. They still buy lots of casual t-shirts and short sleeve shirts that they seldom get a chance to wear. Yet when it comes to office wear, they would spend as little as possible. Often time buying in bulk from shops like G2000 and H&M.
I always find myself wondering what’s the logic behind this. Until recently, I think I’ve figured out the reason for this behavior.
It’s simply because they don’t like their job! Or don’t enjoy working.
Let me explain. I remember during army days when all of us will refuse to invest our own money into buying things to use in the army. Look, I’m not referring to stuff like shampoo or toothbrush. I’m referring to watch and gloves for outfield. We just don’t feel like spending any of our own money to serve the nation.
I believe it’s the same thing my colleagues don’t spend on office wear.
My point is, if you are going to wear them for 4 to 5 days per week (that’s about 70% of your time per week). You should invest 70% of what you are spending on clothing, on office wear.
So, for those who agrees with me but is looking for recommendations on where you can buy or tailor your office wear, this is what I recommend you do.
For buying off shelves, check out this blog post by http://www.menswearsingapore.com, for those looking to tailor make some (like I do), read on.
I made mine from an old tailor shop at harbourfront. You know the coffee shop where it used to be the only place where you take a bus into Sentosa? Yes that coffee shop. Walk all the way to the other end where there’s also a Singapore pools. There are several tailor shops there but only one who still entertains you if you are ONLY making shirt (I understand from the uncle that shirts have pathetic margins and hence no one will entertain you if you are only looking to tailor shirts).
So that shop is……. (Get ready for this)…….. Ai Mee!
Haha….okok as corny as it sounds, no one will know you made your clothes there yeah. No label or logo will be stitched or printed on the end product. The shop is run by an old skinny uncle in his 70s? The shirt ranges from as low as $45 to $100 depending on fabric. Hell yeah!!
I usually only need to spend time choosing the fabric, the collar type and I will bring my current shirt and pass the uncle for sizing. The place is really hot though, be sure to come in t shirt and shorts when you go over.
